Inventing a new currency for coffee lovers

METRO ST.JAMES - UI | CONTENT

Metro St. James, a French café and bistro, had just opened above St.James Station. Not only was it competing with hundreds of other established cafes across the city, it wasn’t exposed to consistent city worker footfall due to it’s relatively hidden location. They needed a way of telling people they were there.

The café had an obvious French charm that other cafes didn’t, which provided a opportunity to tell a story that made them feel different – we invited customers to put away their money and pay for their coffee with a kiss. The experience of customers using this new way to pay was brought to life through digital content, which got shared around the world.

DESIGNING A 'KISS REGISTER'

Seeing as cash payments for coffee were no longer needed, a new type of register was required. A native iPad app was createdto capture customer kisses and allow them to be shared on social media.

RECREATING A FAMOUS KISS

Robert Doisneau’s ‘The Kiss of The Hotel de Ville’ was recreated and used to promote the cafe on coffee cups and street posters.
